Well must say was truly amazed that brother Paul
hiked so much faster than I could during our spring backpack trip. After all I am 3 years younger, usually 30 lbs lighter, and was a regular runner for 3+ decades. Should have not been surprised though as every time have gone up half dome it feels like a sprint. For some reason thought that carrying a backpack would slow him down but that was an uncorrect thought. As such to help build stamina and ability to keep up am ignoring the advice of 5 different doctors and jogging again. Been walking over 30 miles a week for months but just don't get any buzz like do when run. It is true that at times while running the earth leaves my feet and makes me feel kinda like superman.
So it is sort of easy to figure out why despite persistent leg, back, head problems still have an itch to get out there and run as fast as I can. I realize what used to be 7 minute mile pace runs are now more like 11+, however in my mind am as swift as ever was. That's the fun part I guess about getting old. Okay don't think will be running too many more weeks - gots to be careful not to get jammed up prior to heading out on the AT not too long from now (March, 2014). On the other hand maybe should learn how to fly so that no matter how banged up may get all that need to do is kneel down on one knee, place fist to the ground and take off!

Is that a picture of Forrest Gump?
